PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical Therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who evaluate and treat people with health problems resulting from injury, disease, developmental disorders or illness.  PTs assess joint motion, muscle strength, endurance, heart and lung function, and performance of activities of daily living.  Treatment includes therapeutic exercise, cardiovascular endurance training, and training in activities of daily living.  Several of our therapists are board certified pediatric specialists (PCS).  Please see below for a definition.

Pediatric Certified Specialists (PCSs)  are physical therapists who complete a process that develops their skills beyond that of an entry level professional.  The therapist builds upon a broad base of professional education and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to pediatric practice.  Clinical specialization in physical therapy responds to a specific area of patient need and requires extensive knowledge, skill, and clinical experience.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational Therapists (OTs) are professionals who study human growth and development with a special emphasis on the social, emotional, and physiological effects of illness and injury.  OTs give people the "skills for the job of living" by customizing treatments aimed at improving activities of daily living.  These treatments include activities to optimize a person's capacity to perform specific skills such as swallowing and eating, playing, and interacting successfully with other persons.  OTs also provide creative solutions and resources for carrying out daily activities, including recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment.

MUSIC THERAPY (provided by Music Therapy Services of Orange County)

Music Therapists (MTs) Music Therapy is the use of music by a trained and qualified professional in the accomplishment of therapeutic aims: the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of mental and physical health. Music Therapy is a systematic process of intervention wherein the therapist helps the client achieve behavioral, social, emotional, sensory, cognitive, communication, and physical goals and objectives using musical experiences and the relationships that develop through them as dynamic forces of change. It is valid and effective with persons who have functional deficits in any of the above goal areas. Because music therapy is a powerful and non- threatening medium, unique outcomes are possible. The ultimate goal of music therapy is to help clients achieve their full potential and enhance their quality of life. Because music is pervasive, flexible, and structured, music therapy can be used in several effective ways, and responses may be immediate and readily apparent.
